Formed in 2023, the Isla String Quartet comprises students from the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) and the Royal College of Music (RCM), where they receive mentorship from the Marmen Quartet, through the RCM String Quartet Platform Scheme.
As Tillett Debut Artists 2025, they are looking forward to performances around the UK in the next couple of seasons. Most recently, they were finalists at the Royal Over-Seas League Competition 2025, and won the inaugural RAM Nina Drucker Haydn String Quartet Prize 2024, as well as the Harold Craxton Prize, together with pianist Sherri Lun.
Notable collaborations include performing Mozart’s B-flat major String Quintet with renowned violist and composer Brett Dean at the Calne Music and Arts Festival 2024, along with his own arrangement of Mozart’s Church Sonata in D, and Brahms Piano Quintet with Ryan Wigglesworth at Smith Square Hall. As Britten Pears Young Artists 2023-24, they gave a lunchtime recital at Aldeburgh Jubilee Hall at the end of their Chamber Music Residency, receiving coaching from Alasdair Beatson.
The Isla String Quartet receive regular coaching from John Myerscough, cellist of the renowned Doric String Quartet, and have also enjoyed learning from chamber music specialists including Lawrence Power, Hélène Clement, Ying Xue, and Marc Danel, at the Schiermonnikoog Festival 2025.
